hi all,

Detritus.net has been growing slowly but steadily and some new
developments are worth mentioning.

-a 4GB drive has been installed exclusively for web documents.

-i've put the entire contents of John Oswald's Plunderphonic CD in
MPEG3 streaming Shockwave format on the site.
see http://www.detritus.net/plunderphonic this format is great cuz its compressed (for fast downloading) but it
still sounds excellent, and, its possible to convert it to other formats
(unlike RealAudio) for re-use and re-combination. The mpeg3 community is
actually pretty huge, you can download tons of nearly CD-quality stuff
from numerous sites, for free (and in violation of copyright, of course!)

-The site still goes largely unannounced because i've been too busy to
really get it whipped into shape. But, Lloyd Dunn's new issue of
Photostatic Retrofuturist will include an ad for detritus.net, so i plan
to have it more presentable by the time that goes out (in a week or so?)
At that time i will also start promoting it on the net in the appropriate
places, and you're encouraged to tell everyone as well.

-This week the net connection that the detritus machine is on
will be switched to a new provider which is even BETTER. We're moving our
T1 to CRL, a tier-one bandwidth provider, meaning they are more
well-connected than our previous provider, Exodus.
However, this means the site may be offline for several hours while we
plug our router into the new line and configure it, etc. I'm not
exactly sure when, but probably between 10 am and 2 pm Pacific Time
tommorrow (tuesday).

Okay, that's about it for now. Thanx for your support.
