Great story.
There's something definitely "Emperors New clothes" about it . Obviously the
ease with which the prankster fooled the hepcats at FatCat that they had
material from the groundbreaking Pole, but perhaps the joke is on many of
the rest of us as well. I like all this glitch/error digital buggery
electronica shit as much as anyone but one could question just how ready we
are to accept things as interesting/quality/worthy/Art just because we are
told that that's what they are. A friend and I used to joke about people
going into rough trade and putting the needle on the slipmat by mistake but
still nodding thoughtfully and asking for a copy. I bet I wouldn't be able
to tell it wasn't Pole either, and what does that say about Pole?
I would love to hear the record, and surely many others would too. And who
is the trickster? perhaps some poor fool like me sitting at home making
music all day who knew there was no point sending his stuff to fatCat under
his own name.

Bet Plotkin's a bit gutted...

Back to it
