Interesting timing Steev, as I'm finding myself in another period of
straining on the bonds of work to get any art made. I would say, just be
careful you don't get too much of a day job...
Wouldn't it be interesting if there were people in the world who would make
jobs that they knew would be good day jobs for artists and state them as
such: requiring a lot of dedication and intelligence, but not necessarily
strict about time. Deadline oriented. Possibly somewhat brain -numbing
work that a true 'careerist' would be driven nuts by. Good benefits, but
maybe less focus on paycheck...
Be interested to hear what some non-Americans have to add on this
front. And for Philo to say what they do in Japan about this conundrum.

"We're afraid of getting sued because it mentions a product name. We can't print the word NyQuil on the record, so we had to call the song something else besides "NyQuil Driver". But we can say it in the song all we want, we're just not allowed to [print it on the record]. We didn't want to get sued. . . I don't even know why NyQuil would be upset. Is it that we are suggesting that there is something wrong with their product? Or, is it that we would be stealing their customers away by getting them to buy records instead of cold medicine?" -John Linnell of They Might Be Giants, about the song 'AKA Driver'
