[rumori] "Flying Saucer"/Dr.Demento/OT:Artemiev

I probably learned about this style of cut up music through
Dr Demento. Didnt he have a guy on staff would make make
newsreel-style parodies using cut-ups of pop and heavy metal
lyrics?
Dr Demento is nothing if not meticulous. Playlist from 85,
which is about when I was fanatically listening to him...

Current issues of Big Daddy (UK record mag) features interviews with
Steinski, Coldcut, etc, the Brits who popularlize cut-up production styles
in the late 80's, very interesting read.

OT: on another note, recently met with an operative from a russian
record label called electroshok (http://www.electroshock.ru/)
run by Artemiy Artemiev, son of russian emusic composer Edward
Artemiev (Solaris!). Maybe someone else can fill me in on the history
of emusic in Russia (only other Russian I know of is Theramin), but
Electroshok is planning a 3 day festival of academic & popular emusic
in St Petersburg. The cd I was given by Artemiy is a lot better than I
anticipated. Very sparse, at times bringing to mind a little Thomas Koner,
at others Hearts of Space or Projekt.

I'm told that many of the reissues are full of re-records and sound-alikes, to avoid having to pay and/or get permission to use the sampled songs - so it should be the same song being sampled, just not the same band/singer, etc. Thats interesting that they produce the rerecord in stereo, while the rest of the recording is in mono - pretty sloppy!
