read some bits from a friend's copy. He bought last year a UK edition in
London. He also bought recently an Italian edition (I don't think the parody
had ever been translated before, in Italy).

I have also noticed that some bits in the Italian edition have been adapted
with regards to some jokes/names (I have for example seen someone casting a
spell and mentioning "Kofi Annan!" between the "magic words"...

I havent read the whole book; for what I've seen it seems a fun parody... of
course friend of mine who has read Tolkien's works 12 times or so would say
it's publishing a parody of the Bible.
Uhmm, 1969 anyway was probably "the right time" to publish it...

not 100% sure about this bit but maybe you are right...
