Washington, Jan. 15 (Bloomberg) -- The Supreme Court upheld a law that
extends every U.S. copyright for 20 years,
preserving Walt Disney Co.'s exclusive rights to Mickey Mouse and Donald
Duck and AOL Time Warner Inc.'s ownership of
   ``The Wizard of Oz.''
The justices voted 7-2 to reject arguments that the 1998 Sonny Bono
Copyright Term Extension Act violates the U.S.
   Constitution's free-speech and copyright clauses.
The ruling is a victory for the largest media companies, extending book,
music and film copyrights that bring in more than
$300 million a year in royalties. The decision also ensures that Disney
will control its stock of company mascots for at
   least two more decades.
The Supreme Court had raised questions about the law by agreeing to hear
arguments from scholars, artists, and Internet-
rights advocates who opposed the extension.
